MAUMEE, OHIO – In a striking departure from the issues of the 2008 campaign, Vice Presidential candidate Senator Joe Biden sported new glasses today and instantly garnered 4 points in the polls for the Obama-Biden ticket.
“If I’d had any idea it was this simple, I would have done it weeks ago,” said a visibly surprised Biden. “We’ve been campaigning on the issues… the economy, the war, energy independence, education, healthcare, you name it. Apparently the swing voters are interested in glasses.”
The campaign dismisses claims that the move is a response to the sudden and pervasive celebrity of Alaska Governor and VP candidate Sarah Palin. Her running mate Senator John McCain earlier dismissed Senator Barack Obama in campaign ads as nothing more than a celebrity.
“No, it’s not a copycat move,” said a campaign staffer on condition of anonymity. “But if the polls drag, maybe watch for a new hairdo.”
